The building of the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus

As the building was rebuilt several times and when people decided to build the final Temple that had to honour the goddess that was the patroness of the city, people started to think about the ways to make the temple strong.
The decision how to make it was rather brave and extraordinary, as people decided to build it on the swamp near the river. Hersifron said that the soft soil would be the shock absorber during the future earthquakes. And to prevent the Temple from getting down into the soil, the big hole was made that was filled with the mixture made of wood charcoal and wool. And in such way they made the "pillow" with the size of several metres. And this "pillow" really helped the Temple to survive.
Probably the building provoked many difficulties and the evidence of this fact may be found in different sources not to mention the problems connected with the place of building of the Temple. For example first people didn't even know how to bring the great columns to the swamp and how they will be fixed in such soft fundament. Builders made different kinds of carriages but marble columns crashed them all. And again Hersifron found the solution. People added the wheels to the columns turning them into the simple carriages.
The great architect didn't live till the inauguration of the Temple. And after his death, his son became the main architect in the temple building. And when his son died another two architects finished the work in 450 BC.
The interior decorations of the Temple are unknown till nowadays.
