The history of the list

The first list of Seven Wonders of the World was made by Herodotus. The list first appeared in the 5th century BC in Ancient Greece. The island Samos contained all wonders mentioned in the list. And there were only three of them: the aqueduct in the form of the tunnel, the dyke in the local port and the Temple of the goddess Hera.
Later the list got four wonders more. And in a century, the new list was made that already had 7 Wonders of the World. And the base of this list was the poem. Scientists still disagree on the author of this poem. And the Seven Wonders of the World were the next: the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Statue of Zeus at Olympia, the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, the Mausoleum of Maussollos at Halicarnassus, the Colossus of Rhodes, the Lighthouse of Alexandria.
Scientists say that this list is connected with the empire of Alexander the Great. In some sources the author of the final list is considered to be the Philon Byzantine.
Till nowadays only one wonder of the Ancient world survived and this wonder is the Pyramid in Giza. And the Mausoleum of Maussollos at Halicarnassus and the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus came to our days being partially destroyed.
Later there were several attempts to make the lists on the base of this list of monuments. And in the end of the first century the Roman poet added Coliseum to the list. And some religious people also added the Temple of Solomon and the Noah's Ark to the list.
