The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus speciality

Unlike the Temple of Artemis and other similar constructions of Asia, the Mausoleum in Halicarnassus kept the Greek traditions and the building methods. It also has the influence of the Eastern architecture. That is why there are no similar to Mausoleum buildings in Greece, but there were a lot of its followers. The similar buildings were created later in different parts of the Middle East.
Architects built the burial vault to the Halicarnassus tyrant in the form of almost square building the first level of which was the burial vault of Artemissia and Maussollos. It was decorated with the white marble. The second level kept the sacrifices. And the roof of the tomb was the pyramid also made of marble. It also had the statue of the queen and the king in the chariot with four horses. There were the statues of lions and riders around the Mausoleum.
It was the symbol of dieing Greek classical art. Probably it was too rich and decorated to become really beautiful. And even on the images of reconstructions it seems to be heavy and static as Persian tombs. It has more eastern culture than the Greek one. The lowest level was based on 15 Dorian columns.
The Mausoleum was standing in the centre of the city that went to the sea. That is why it was seen from the sea and was making perfect view with other temples of the city situated on both sides of the building.
A great number of copies appeared, but as all copies they were less perfect and beautiful than the original building.
