The story of Herostratus

People don't know the interior decorations, the statues it had and how the statue of Artemis looked like. And it is better not to believe the authors that describe the decorations of the Temple in details as almost for sure such descriptions have nothing to do with the temple.
Everything done by Hersifron and his helpers disappeared because of Herostratus. The story of Herostratus is maybe one of the most educative stories in the history of our planet. The person wanted to receive the immortal life committing the crime. To become famous and great as well as to receive the immortal life in the memory of future generations he set the Temple of Artemis that existed less than 100 years on fire. This happened the day when Alexander the Great was born.
And people of Ephesus made up the punishment for the Herostratus; they adapted the law according to which they decided to forget about the person who dreamed about the fame. They prohibited mentioning his name. But they made the tragic mistake. Their unusual punishment became so popular as people were fascinated by the wisdom of the inhabitants of the city that they started to tell the story about the Herostratus punishment to each other. And of course we didn't forget his name.
And people decided to rebuild the temple again. And this time the building was not rather long and took only a few years. After all they didn't have to invent something new but to rebuild something that already existed. But the Temple was greater this time. And the temple rose over the city again.
