The Temple of Artemis as the Wonder of the World

After the Temple of Artemis was burned by Herostratus, people decided to rebuild it again making it even greater. And the architect Herokrat started the building. He was the famous inventor who built the city Alexandria and it was he who got the idea to turn the mountain into the statue of Alexander the Great with the jug in the arm.

And this rebuilt Temple is considered to be the Wonder of the World. And nowadays people disagree on what Temple should be considered to be the Wonder of the World. Some say that the first one has more scientific base. Others support the idea that the second one has more arguments. And the story that happened after the Temple's rebuilding is filled with legends, gossips and theories.

Alexander the Great gave the money for the new temple building in such way getting the political popularity and honouring goddess. But people of the city refused to take his money saying that the god can't build temples to other gods. People of the city collected all treasure they had and gave it to rebuild the new temple.

The new Temple of Artemis was decorated with great statues and beautiful paintings as well as the art works of the most famous artists from the East. But there were a few pictures from Greece. And not to offend Alexander the Great people of the city ordered to make the portrait of the ruler and the art work became so great as the image had Alexander with the lightning in his arm that seemed to be going out from the picture.

The Temple was fascinating the tourists the millennium and a half more after which it was destroyed, the marble was stolen and the river finished the work on the Temple's destruction.

The ruins of the temple were found by the English archaeologists.
