The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus

The Temple of Artemis always provoked a lot of doubts. That is why it is unknown about which Temple we should talk: about the first or the last.
Ephesus was the great city and was the richest and the most developed city of the Greek culture as it also absorbed the culture of the East. And this city was the place where all sailors who travelled to the Black sea and East gathered. And everybody knew about the Temple built in this city that was the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus.
The Temple was built several times. The built constructions were getting worse, old and died because of the earthquakes. That is why in the middle of 6th century they decided to build the beautiful Temple for the goddess without saving money and efforts. And the neighbour cities and countries showed their desire to help the Ephesus.
This Temple is surrounded by 127 columns that were given as a gift by 127 kings. Well, it is doubtful that there were so many kings in neighbourhood; nevertheless this building became the common occupation of several countries.
The best painters, artists, architectures and sculptures came to this city to help in the building. The best plan for the Temple was chosen the plan of Hersifron. He proposed to build the Temple of marble and to surround the temple with two lines of columns.
